The Basics
With locations in Ridgewood, Ramsey and Mahwah, New Jersey, West Bergen Mental Healthcare was originally founded in 1963 as a children’s counseling clinic. Today, the facility has expanded to provide a full range of outpatient programs for children, adolescents, adults and families with treatment available for addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning treatment, clients undergo an initial intake and assessment so that an individualized treatment plan can be created. Outpatient programs for addiction are divided into two tracks: Discovery and Recovery. While both include many of the same modalities, the Discovery program is geared towards clients who have not yet accepted or examined their substance abuse while the Recovery program is for those who are ready to get help with their addiction.
Treatment works within the structure of individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based practices, such as Motivational Interviewing (MI) and CBT. Clients with a dual diagnosis are offered additional psychiatric support and medication management, as needed. Groups use psychoeducation and self-evaluation techniques while addressing various addiction-related topics and relapse prevention strategies. Though not required, clients are encouraged to attend off-site 12-step meetings.
Staff consists of LCSWs, LADCs, LPCs, MSWs, LMFTs, RNs, an MD and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Though no official aftercare is offered, clients who complete primary care can get referrals for sober living programs.
Additional services include a specialized program for anger management, anxiety disorders and depression intervention, as well as a developmental social skills program for children with autism.
