The Basics
Housed in a re-purposed schoolhouse in Wayne, New Jersey, Wayne Counseling and Family Services provides outpatient substance abuse treatment in Passaic County, less than 20 miles from New York City. Wayne Counseling has been in operation for over 20 years providing substance abuse care as well as general mental health counseling and supportive services for children, the elderly and women in transition.
Treatment and Staff
Most clients attend group therapy once a week and have individual therapy as-needed. The duration of treatment varies as some clients are court-mandated to attend a required number of sessions, while many self-referred clients stay enrolled in the program for several months.
Group therapy is led by Master’s-level therapists including LPCs with addiction counseling credentials such as Licensed CADCs with all therapy incorporating CBT and DBT. In addition to these sessions clients are required to attend at least one 12-step or other peer support meeting each week.
Groups have fewer than 15 participants and explore anger management, relapse prevention and coping skills. While the treatment team is qualified to address co-occurring disorders in group sessions, clients are referred to outside mental health clinics for more in-depth dual diagnosis support.
Extras
Wayne Counseling is well-known for its Women in Transition (WIT) program, which helps displaced homemakers, widows and victims of domestic violence access job training, improve communication skills and navigate the legal system. It also offers Wellness Initiative for Senior Education (WISE), which helps seniors educate themselves on healthy lifestyle choices. Additionally, children can enroll in the I Can Problem Solve program (ICPS) that teaches young people communication skills and emotional literacy.
