The Basics
Walden Eating Disorders Treatment offers a continuum of care for eating disorder treatment that includes programs across New England and also in Georgia. There are two inpatient locations—the main facility in Connecticut and one in Massachusetts. In addition to its inpatient options, the organization also provides outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) at eight facilities in the Northeast and three in Georgia.
Treatment and Staff
Those who need to stabilize can attend one of the organization’s inpatient programs before continuing to outpatient care. The most intensive option is PHP, which meets for six hours a day, five days a week. IOP generally consists of nine hours of therapy a week and standard outpatient plans can be individualized to fit each client’s schedule.
All programs include both individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Group sessions also include art therapy, emotional processing, psychodrama, recovery skills, relapse prevention techniques, trauma-informed care, yoga, psychoeducation, cooking skills and nutritional counseling.
IOP and PHP tracks also include supervised meals and snacks with support for a range of dietary restrictions. Dual diagnosis support is available for a range of co-occurring disorders as well, including anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression and substance abuse. While 12-step participation is not strictly required, clients are encouraged to attend peer support groups in addition to treatment at their discretion. Family therapy can be added into each of the above programs as well.
The staff at all Walden Eating Disorders Treatment locations consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
Residents also have the opportunity to participate in practice meals out in restaurants and other group settings. Additionally, they can participate in a range of holistic therapies like yoga, dance, somatic experiencing and creative writing.
