Nanaimo British Columbia CanadaThe Basics

Victory Lodge is comprised of two comfortable, up-scale sober living residences for men in Nanaimo, British Columbia, approximately 37 miles west of Vancouver.

Founded in 2010 by Patrick F. Douglas, services at Victory Lodge are tailored for individuals who are committed to living lives engaged in recovery in a positive, family-like atmosphere. Residents of The Lodge have access to a supportive and tight-knit alumni network who promote and help sustain lasting recovery.

Accommodations and Amenities

Clients are accommodated in two large craftsman-like homes featuring well-appointed bedrooms with modern decor, stainless steel appliances and flat screen HD TVs. Men sleep in their own private bedrooms, and the homes typically house six residents at a time.

Residents can use the house phones for local and long distance calls and the homes have high-speed Wifi and on-site laundry facilities. Clients are responsible for their own food shopping and meal preparation, but many choose to work with each other to create shared and communal meals.

Rules and Regulations

There is no curfew at Victory Lodge, but founder Douglas has learned that clients who stay out late tend to relapse and don’t last as residents. Residents must submit to random drug testing and the facility has a zero-tolerance policy for substance use of any kind.

Clients must have at least 30 days of sobriety before entering Victory Lodge. Most stay a year to a year-and-a-half, during which time they must attend at least three 12-step meetings each week. They must also participate in a weekly Big Book study group at the house as well as a weekly check-in group. Residents must start working with sponsors in a home 12-step program and be employed, in school and/or volunteering throughout their stay.

Extras

Clients can request passes for a family member to have an overnight stay in their room periodically. They can also take part in planned team recreation activities, such as paint ball excursions.

Douglas himself visits each facility several times each week to check in on residents and their progress towards personal goals. He also facilitates those in need of mental health care and job training obtain referrals to local agencies.

In Summary

Patrick F. Douglas founded Victory Lodge to create stable and supportive long-term sober living facilities for men in Nanaimo, British Columbia. With comfortable accommodations, weekly Big Book study and check-in groups, residents receive on-going recovery support while also having the autonomy to come and go as they please, managing their time and responsibilities according to their own priorities.
