Austin TexasThe Basics

Victory Life Home is a female-only sober living house in Austin, Texas. The house once accommodated men, but has recently undergone a change and now provides space for female clients who are newly clean and sober.

Accommodations and Amenities

Located on a picturesque residential street, the one-story ranch style house features a long driveway and landscaped lawn. Victory Life Home accommodates twelve women, who are housed in double or triple-occupancy rooms, furnished with twin beds, dark wood dressers and antique style lamps and armchairs. The house includes three bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, living room with cozy couches and a fireplace and a nice backyard.

Clients are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. Personal cabinet and refrigerator spaces are assigned for food storage. Amenities include a house computer with Internet, Cable TV, Wi-Fi and laundry facilities. Clients are forbidden to order pay-per-view movies, and those who violate this rule are subject to the cost plus an additional $20 administrative fee. There is a house manager who lives on the property.

Rules and Regulations

Prior to admission, clients must pass a drug and alcohol screening. Additionally, required documentation must be presented and includes an application, a background check authorization, a $100 application fee, proof of employment or verification of SSI benefits, a photo ID and a social security card. Weekly requirements for residents include maintaining employment or disability benefits, performing household chores and attending the Sunday night house meeting at 8 pm.

Clients who lose their jobs are required to sign up with the Texas workforce, actively look for work and obtain unemployment benefits within two weeks of job termination. The curfew is 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Overnight passes are available after two weeks of residency.

At Victory Life Home, clients are subject to random drug and alcohol screenings. Those who refuse to take the test, or who have tested positively, have two hours to gather their belongings before being evicted from the premises. Also, clients must report to the house manager should they suspect that a housemate is under the influence. Failure to do so also leads to their immediate termination from the house. Other forbidden items include candles, incense and fireworks.

Extras

While guests are welcome at Victory Life House, they must leave the house by 10 pm seven days a week.

In Summary

Victory Life Home offers safe housing for women who are newly clean and sober, but they are not big on adhering to a 12-step recovery protocol. Those seeking more of a 12-step approach should continue their search. However, this is a cozy and quaint place for clients seeking affordable sober living. Women new to recovery looking for a safe place to stay while they are getting settled or receiving government benefits will find this to be a great match.
