The Basics
With locations in Chestertown, Cambridge and Easton, Maryland, University of Maryland Shore Behavioral Health is a full-service behavioral health hospital with a range of primary care programs. Aside from medical services, it also offers comprehensive outpatient treatment for addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial intake and assessment, clients work with staff to develop an individualized treatment plan. The main track is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that relies primarily on group therapy using evidence-based techniques. However, clients can add individual therapy as needed, with additional support available for those with co-occurring disorders.
The IOP meets Mondays through Fridays from nine am to noon and covers a range of topics including coping mechanisms, self-esteem, communication skills and the mind-body connection. For less intensive care, there is a standard outpatient track that meets less frequently though uses much of the same treatment modalities. Though 12-step participation is not required as a part of treatment, clients can get referrals to off-site meetings if they wish.
Staff includes MDs, nurse practitioners, LCSWs, CACs, LPCs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Aftercare is offered in the form of continued outpatient treatment.
Shore Behavioral Health also offers inpatient treatment for addiction, including the Bridge Clinic, which helps clients discharging from inpatient who still need further psychiatric care. To enroll in this program, clients must be referred by a social worker or other relevent outside agency. Standalone addiction and psychiatric assessments are also available.
