The Basics
Housed in the Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Los Angeles, California, the UCLA Eating Disorders Program is a treatment program with both medical and psychiatric care for teens and adolescents. The organization offers individualized and flexible treatment for a range of issues, including anorexia and bulimia. In addition to the inpatient clinic, outpatient plans are also available.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an intake and assessment to help staff members develop their care plans. Though treatment for substance abuse is not a primary part of the program, those in need of detox services can do so on-site at the hospital before continuing to inpatient or outpatient care as necessary.
Clients who are stable enough to live at home can attend outpatient or Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) depending on the severity of their issues. In either event, these plans include individual and group therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including DBT and CBT. Dual diagnosis support including medication management services are also available. Groups cover a wide range of topics such as self-regulation, emotional processing, trauma-informed care, nutritional counseling, cooking classes and healthy body image.
The staff at the UCLA Eating Disorders Program consists of MDs, psychiatrists, psychologists, RNs, case managers, nutritionists, LMFTs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
As mentioned, those seeking more intensive care services can also attend the organization’s inpatient program whenever necessary. Those who complete a primary care plan can also work with staff members to develop stepped down aftercare plans or get referrals to nearby transitional living facilities. Special program tracks are available to both adolescents and adults.
