The Basics
U-Stick House is a sober living home for men that emphasizes providing structure and furthering recovery using the 12 steps. Located in Idaho’s capital city, Boise, USH helps clients build a strong peer support system in a healing environment where they can begin building a life free of alcohol and drugs.
Accommodations and Amenities
USH offers two gender-specific sober homes; The Inn and The Manor. Each home is spacious and situated on large residential plots of land with good-sized front and back yards. The homes come with fully equipped kitchens, living rooms with cable TVs, dining rooms and communal computers for residential use.
Clients share dual-occupancy rooms with two twin-sized beds, two bedside tables and a cabinet for clothes. Residents also elect a house chairman, co-chairman and secretary among their fellows who are in charge of maintaining the structure and enforcing the house rules. This strong peer-based network helps clients with relationship-building, allowing the men to share experiences and learn from one another.
Rules and Regulations
The strict structure at USH helps clients not only maintain sobriety, but also learn how to live independently once they move on to traditional housing. Clients must already be sober upon admittance and willing to make a 90-day commitment. Residents must also be employed, be a full-time student or obtain employment within the first two weeks of residing at USH. Attendance at 12-step meetings is also a requirement—as is having a sponsor.
Residents are required to sign out of the house when leaving and are responsible for performing their assigned daily chore. There is mandatory on-site drug and alcohol testing to ensure sobriety.
Extras
With the aim of helping clients build rounded and full lives, USH arranges a variety of activities including golf, hiking and bike riding as well as snowboarding and trips to a nearby lake.
In Summary
USH is a good choice for men in recovery looking for a fairly strict sober living environment with an emphasis on 12-step recovery. Clients are taught how to live a healthy and sober life while cultivating autonomy and independence. Potential clients who enjoy outdoor recreational activities will find themselves well-situated in this Idaho sober home.
