The Basics
In 2011, Thomas Tueller (LCSW) opened Tueller Counseling Services to provide mental health and substance abuse treatment to the residents of Idaho Falls, Idaho. Since 2011, TCS has expanded to four locations throughout Eastern Idaho and recently opened a primary care division—United HealthCare of Idaho. Each location offers a standard outpatient and an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) with dual diagnosis support.
Treatment and Staff
Prospective clients are assessed using the Global Appraisal of Individual Needs (GAIN), a biopsychosocial assessment tool. After, they’re placed on either the standard or IOP track. Standard outpatient clients have group therapy once or twice a week and individual therapy once weekly, for a total of four to six treatment hours each week. IOP clients have group therapy two or three times each week and individual sessions at least once a week for a total of five to nine treatment hours.
The average length of treatment is three months, but may be extended depending on the client’s needs and progress. The treatment team is comprised of Master’s-level therapists and addiction counselors, including MFTs, CADCs, LMSWs and LPCs. A psychiatrist and nurse practitioner are also available at most locations to provide therapy and medication management for clients with co-occurring disorders.
Therapy follows the Matrix Model, focusing on CBT. Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step or other peer support meetings such as SMART Recovery, which are held at TCS offices.
Extras
TCS can provide family therapy for clients whose loved ones want to take an active role in recovery. For aftercare, clients can continue to attend a weekly relapse prevention therapy group. TCS also offers domestic violence intervention groups and MRT groups for adults and adolescents.
