TruVida Recovery Review
TruVida Recovery provides outpatient, residential and detox treatment in the southern California beachside community of Laguna Niguel. TruVida opened its doors one year ago. Its intimate residential program for men offers holistic, 12-step oriented treatment with dual diagnosis support.
Accommodations and Food
Clients reside in an upscale suburban home that features a plush, traditional décor. There are six beds in the home and all residents have roommates. Bedrooms feature flat-screen TVs and common areas have additional TVs and areas for reading and playing games.
A chef prepares lunches and dinners daily, and clients are responsible for creating their breakfasts from groceries provided by TruVida. The home features a laundry room that residents use on Sundays. After an initial 14-day blackout period, clients can use personal computers and cell phones.
Treatment and Staff
Detox usually lasts five to seven days. Detox clients stay at the home and then begin attending daily treatment groups when they’re well enough. Residential treatment is usually an additional 21 days.
Residents have group therapy and psychoeducation classes six to seven times each day and group therapy at least once a week. Groups and classes explore relationship skills, relapse prevention and the disease of addiction. Therapy uses CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-step framework. Residents can receive therapy and medication management for co-occurring disorders, but they must have a primary diagnosis of substance abuse. Clients are transported to 12-step meetings each evening and TruVida brings facilitated 12-step panels into the home periodically.
The treatment team includes Master’s-level psychologists, a consulting psychiatrist, a 24/7 nursing staff and sober coaches.
Extras
Clients are transported to the gym five days a week for workouts. Residents also have weekly art and yoga therapy. TruVida also offers a Recovery in Motion class, a curriculum specially designed to help those in early recovery heal through movement techniques, and Rock to Recovery, classes with professional musicians in which clients create music using their life experiences.
For aftercare, many clients step down to TruVida’s outpatient program. However, the treatment team works with each client to create an aftercare plan that meets their geographic and financial needs.

TruVida Recovery’s men’s residential program provides its clients with evidence-based therapy, holistic treatment experiences such as movement and music therapy, and a thorough exploration of the 12-step framework. Residents receive considerable individual attention and leave treatment with a customized aftercare plan with which to continue their success in recovery.
