The Basics
Just northeast of downtown Los Angeles in the neighboring city of Pasadena, Tree of Life Healing is a treatment facility that specializes in the care of clients of all ages struggling with depression, anxiety, substance use and eating disorders as well as stressful life events. Founded by husband and wife team Andrea-Marie Stark and Chris Tickner, Tree of Life provides outpatient alternative and holistic therapeutic methods to treat “the whole person,” including the body, mind and spirit.
Treatment and Staff
Tree of Life Healing offers an alternative, holistic approach to treatment, and oftentimes serves clients that have yet to find success in traditional therapy. The facility provides treatment for a wide range of conditions including substance use and eating disorders, mood disorders like bipolar disorder, trauma and developmental and attention disorders like ADHD. The team can also help with an array of personal, relationship and familial issues like self-esteem, creativity, the loss of a loved one, infidelity and divorce.
Clients beginning treatment at Tree of Life by undergoing an initial assessment that helps the therapist create a customized care program to meet the client’s specific needs. This session also provides clients the opportunity to ask questions and discuss what brought them there. The frequency and length of treatment vary depending on the specific needs and progress of the client, though weekly sessions are typically recommended.
Tree of Life offers individual and group therapy as well as couples and family sessions. Treatment includes a combination of a host of holistic and experiential therapeutic methods like mindfulness practices, Reiki, energy body work and tarot consultations, as well as body-mind therapies including meditation and guided imagery. Somatic therapy uses the connection between the mind, body and spirit to treat trauma as a symptom of an unstable autonomic nervous system. In addition, Tree of Life Healing facilitates counseling services, shamanic practice methods and several levels of group Reiki classes.
The Tree of Life Healing team is comprised of MFTs, Reiki practitioners, personal trainers, osteopaths and registered marriage and family interns. As there are no physicians, the facility cannot provide medication management. However, Tree of Life can make referrals for massage therapists, chiropractors and homeopaths, to name a few. Since Tree of Life’s practice offers primarily outpatient-based holistic therapy, dual diagnosis support and 12-step recovery are not a part of the programming.

Tree of Life also works with children and teenagers with attention deficit and developmental disorders. To this end, a combination of methods are employed including play therapy, art and music therapy as well as family therapy and CBT. Parents are engaged in the process every step of the way.
Tree of Life Healing does not accept insurance as payment, but does provide a super bill that the client can submit for reimbursement. This often works as an out-of-network through a PPO insurance.
