Located in the upscale Atlanta neighborhood of Sandy Springs, There Is Another Option is a non-profit organization. It’s affordable sober living for men and women in the beginning stages of recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders. There Is Another Option also integrates 12-step, faith-based programming and counseling.
Accommodations and Amenities
There Is Another Option is an apartment building in a quiet neighborhood, close to public transportation. Units feature spacious floor plans and nice furnishings like wrap-around leather couches, glass tables and fireplaces. The apartments have plenty of sunlight and balconies with patio furniture perfect for socializing.
Bedrooms are shared. Rooms are equipped with twin-sized beds, closet space and dressers. The units have TVs and there is a computer available, though Internet is not guaranteed. Clients must bring professional clothing, bath towels and toiletries. They should also have money for food and public transportation. However, the facility can provide new residents with these staples if necessary.
Rules and Regulations
While the staff creates a supportive environment, it still expects residents to take responsibility for their own sobriety. Clients must pass regular and random drug tests as well as a daily breathalyzer. There Is Another Option understands that many clients arrive with nothing. They are still required to begin searching for employment the first day. By the end of the month, residents must be on their way to paying their own bills.
Self-supporting clients tend to be more positive and open minded. As such, There Is Another Option encourages bringing whatever materials might help with achieving an independent sober lifestyle. Recovery books, notebooks, a phone or a computer are allowed. Twelve-step recovery is the cornerstone of programming. The facility provides transportation to and from AA/NA meetings. In addition, clients meet one-on-one with counselors on a weekly basis.
