The Basics
The Maple Counseling Center is an outpatient treatment facility located in Los Angeles. It offers a series of treatment services for adolescents, adults and seniors. The adolescent treatment program addresses myriad mental health concerns for both the child and their families, along with providing educational opportunities for the parents. Programming uses evidence-based treatment methods within an individual therapy setting as well as in family counseling. All the treatment plans are entirely individualized and use age appropriate protocols to explore a variety of behavioral health disorders and developmental issues.
Treatment and Staff
The adolescent clients who are coming in for treatment are there to confront different things that can relate to their development in school, troubles in the home, behavioral issues in school or breakdowns in communication. The parents or guardians play an essential role in the treatment plan. Throughout the treatment process, the family meets with the child’s therapist to discuss progress and learn how to recognize certain behaviors in their child and garner the tools to provide them with the proper care.
Adolescent clients meet with their therapist as often as necessary and also get evaluated for psychiatric services if necessary. An example of issues that clients are typically seen for include anxiety, depression, body image and learning disabilities. There are also addition parenting classes through a four session package, which assists parents learning how to develop open communication and conflict resolution.
There is also an ongoing group session that meets weekly in the evenings. Parents can discuss their challenges and successes during their child’s treatment.
In addition to in house treatments there is a community based preschool mental health program for children between the ages of two and five who are experiencing hardship in terms of being homeless, being affected by poverty, substance abuse, trauma or family dysfunction. This program is used as a method to identify any behavioral health concerns early on and develop a treatment plan to help the kids get on the right track right away.
The staff of the adolescent program at The Maple Counseling Center is made up of a combination of Master’s-level therapists who are LCSW and LMFT, and therapists who are in training.
Extras
Other programs include school based treatment for adolescents who may be experimenting with drugs and alcohol, or have showed signs of a mental illness. There is also the community circle program, which has been around for 40 years. This is an elementary school based program that teaches a number of valuable skills, such as self confidence, responsibility and self worth.
