The Basics
Since 1999, The Life Change Center has been providing outpatient treatment for opioid addiction in Reno, Nevada. This year, the program expanded to include an additional location in Carson. The programs, which offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with methadone or Suboxone alongside group and individual therapy, seek to empower clients and improve their quality of life. The Life Change Center claims that 72% of its clients are able to stop using opioids within the first 60 days of treatment.
Treatment and Staff
Upon admission, clients begin working with a counselor and physician to determine the best course of MAT (either methadone of Suboxone) for their unique treatment needs. They’re required to attend four orientation sessions about what to expect in the course of treatment, four relapse prevention groups and two drug education groups. Clients are monitored by their counselor each day when they receive their medication dose at the clinic.
Following their first month of treatment, clients are required to attend a minimum of one group session each week—though attending daily groups is encouraged. Clients meet for one-on-one therapy with their primary counselor at least once a month.
After 30 days of successful treatment and passing drug screens, clients can apply to take their doses home. The Life Change Center takes a neutral stance on tapering, but those who wish to taper off MAT continue to receive the counseling support and resources to do so. On average, clients stay in treatment at the facility for one year.
The staff is made up of physicians, registered nurses, LPNs and addiction counselors including CADCs and LADCs. Therapy is based on the Matrix Model and uses CBT. The Life Change Center has no 12-step meeting requirements. Clients with co-occurring disorders can receive some support from a staff MFT, but those with significant mental health diagnoses are referred to nearby mental health clinics for more intensive therapy and medication.
Extras
LCC also offers parenting skills workshops and dancing classes. Additionally, it hosts periodic barbecues for clients to connect with each other and program alumni to foster a recovery community.
