The Basics
The Krevoy Institute is an eating disorder treatment facility in Los Angeles for adults and adolescents. Treatment programs are highly structured and tailored to fit each client’s specific needs. Individual, group and family therapy services are provided on flexible schedules that explore common issues that clients with eating disorders typically face, lead by seasoned professionals, including its founder, Susan Krevoy.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is offered through a variety of approaches that are evidence-based and educational combined with holistic methods. Both adolescent and adult clients go through an interview process with one of the staff therapists to determine if the programming offered would be a good fit and to answer any questions the prospective client may have. Adult clients have a more intensive program that can be between four and eight hours per week in both a group and individual setting. Adult group sessions run Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6 to 9 pm and either one or two weekly sessions are required for up to eight weeks initially. After the eight weeks are completed there is a reevaluation of progress and there is either a step-down in treatment or clients remain in the same schedule.
Adolescents treatment programming is scheduled around the clients and their families schedules and can be accommodated during after school and evening hours. The adolescent track mainly takes place in individual sessions. Therapeutic approaches are CBT, EMDR and trauma-informed care.
There are a few specialty classes offered for those who aren’t part of the intensive programs or want to add more to their current treatment. These are also available to psychology students. These groups are both supportive and psychoeducational and cover changing relationships with food, co-occurring disorders, separation anxiety, past traumas and meditation. These sessions are lead by psychologist and nutritionists.
The Krevoy Institute staff are comprised of MFT, Master’s- and Doctorate-level therapists.
Extras
There is a specialty group for loved ones and caretakers of those with eating disorders offered on a weekly basis in the evening for eight weeks. Additionally, family and couples counseling sessions are offered and encouraged.
In Summary
The goal of treatment at The Krevoy Institute is to get to the bottom of why each client began struggling with their eating disorder and to unmask that underlying reason. This can be a painful and time consuming process for many, and the staff emphasizes the importance of feeling safe and heard so as to provide a nurturing environment for healing.
