The Basics
Based out of Rochester, New York, The Healing Connection is a multi-faceted behavioral health organization offering a range of outpatient-based treatments for clients struggling with eating disorders and related behavioral health issues. The facility is a non-profit with support for both men and women. Treatment plans are available in a variety of intensities including standard outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP).
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their care plans. Though detox for substance abuse is not available on-site, those in need can get referrals to nearby facilities as necessary. Though all programs differ, outpatient plans are the most flexible with meeting times available from 8 am to 5 pm. IOP meets on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday for three hours per session whereas PHP meets for seven hours a day Monday through Friday. In all the above, treatment plans include both individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT.
Group sessions cover a range of topics including psychoeducation, nutritional counseling, life skills, meal planning and healthy body image. In fitting with eating disorder treatment, clients also learn meal preparation and go attend supervised meal sessions. Dual diagnosis support is available as well including medication management as necessary. Though 12-step participation is not required, clients may be encouraged to attend local meetings and can get referrals upon request.
The staff at The Healing Connection consists of MDs, RNs, LCSWs, LMFTs, LMHCs, yoga practitioners, art therapists, chefs and additional Master’s and PhD-level clinicians.
Extras
Holistic care methods are also used including yoga, art therapy, dance and movement therapy and mindfulness training.
Other services include flexible adolescent tutoring, parenting classes and mentoring, standalone nutritional counseling and case management services. Those who complete a primary care plan are also encouraged to step down the intensity of their programs as a form of aftercare.
