The Basics

The Emily Program is an eating disorder treatment facility that also offers substance abuse programming. Its outpatient track—that also offers housing—is considered a step-down from 24/7 residential care. This program, known as Partial Plus Lodging, has locations in Ohio, Washington, and Minnesota. During their stay, clients attend a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) or Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) while residing in a supportive community. The Emily Program was originally founded in 1993, and now has locations in four states providing inpatient and outpatient treatment for adolescents and adults.

Accommodations and Food

The partial plus lodging program is only available for adult clients who are 18 and older. The main difference between this program and residential are the reduced number of clinical hours and the fact that clients live off campus in a non-clinical setting, but close to the outpatient facility for their convenience. These locations in Minnesota are beautiful, modern apartment style residences in active areas of the cities. They are surrounded by shopping, restaurants, transportation and are within walking distance to where they recieve treatment. The homes offer semi private bedrooms with full beds, dressers, desks and closet space. The living room has a TV and cable, and there is WiFi throughout the facility. Clients also have access to on site washer and dryers.

The Ohio location, known as The View, is a comfortable, home-like setting that is conveniently located near the treatment facility. The safe neighborhood is near grocery shops and public transportation, though transportation is provided to the facility for treatment daily by the program. Clients share bedrooms and other monderly decorated common spaces. Like the MN location, on site laundry facilities are available along with Wifi, and a TV with cable.

Washington offers two facilities, one in Seattle and the other in Spokane, that are called Neptune and Lilac Lodging. Neptune in Seattle is set within a condo style home, while Lilac is a two-story, single family home. Both are modern and beautifully decorated and provide all the comforts and amenities of home. They are also close to everything the client would need to feel connected to the community while still feeling safe and supported.

Clients learn valuable life skills during the residential program and have ample access to utilize their skills while living in partial plus lodging. They grocery shop and prepare their own meals and snacks, and as a community also have meals together while in the house, but also supervised meals at the treatment facility as well.

Treatment and Staff

The PHP picks up where the residential leaves off with clients spending a minimum of 30 hours per week in programming. These days consist of highly structured programming of experiential and exposure therapy, therapeutic meals, group sessions, medical management and medical monitoring, and regular meetings with the dietitian, assigned therapists, and other medical staff if needed.

The next step down is the IOP, which is four days a week of treatment for up to three hours at a time. This track focuses more on relapse prevention and recovery skills, and also offers substantial group and individual therapy.

Treatment approaches employ evidence-based modalities, like CBT and DBT, and also integrate art and music therapy, trauma-informed care and substance abuse treatment education. Those in the substance abuse treatment track are placed in specialty groups that coincide with their regular programming to include the 12 steps, psychoeducation skills based groups.

There are also a variety of group sessions that offer guidance on specific concerns like body image, transitioning back into their community, therapeutic eating and groups for the LGBTQ community.

The Emily Program staff is made up of Master’s-level LPCs, nutritionists, LCSWs, psychiatrists and medical staff.

The Emily Program offers telehealth for outpatient, intensive outpatient and intensive day/partial hospitalization programs.

Extras

There are family therapy and aftercare options provided for all outpatient clinetle.

In Summary

The partial plus lodging program through The Emily Program is ideal for those who are ready to move out of the inpatient facility but still need a highly structured living situation while attending treatment. It’s essentially sober living for Emily Program outpatient clients. The staff is very supportive through all of these transitions and does what they can to connect their clients to the right resources and set them up for continued success in recovery.
