With two locations in the Washington, DC/Maryland metropolitan area, The Body Image Therapy Center is an outpatient treatment facility that specializes in the care of men and women ages 18 and older struggling with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression and self harm. Clients work with team nutritionist to create and maintain an enjoyable and sustainable diet including three daily meals and snacks. Daily physical activity is incorporated into each individual’s routine. And clients engage in group sessions that focus on myriad skills like setting goals, altering negative behavior patterns, integrating a positive body image, developing stress management and learning coping strategies.
The Body Image Therapy team is comprised of registered nurses, dietitians, social workers, therapists, mental health counselors, an executive chef and a psychiatric nurse practitioner. Every staff member is currently in recovery and fully understands the process that clients are going through. While the 12-step recovery model is not a component of the programming, the facility does work with psychiatrists to provide medication management and dual diagnosis support.
Extras
Adolescents ages 16 and above can also be accepted into the PHP and IOP. Parents engage in regular consultations as well as family-based therapy to learn how to best support their child and the disease of eating disorders.
