The Basics
Founded in 2014 by Rob and Lori Foley Under The Stars Sober Living accommodates eleven clients in a quaint co-ed cottage-style sober living house in Austin, Texas. Lori Foley, who is the house manager, lives on-site and has over ten years of sobriety. At Under The Stars Sober Living, there is the belief that recovery must be the number one priority.
Accommodations and Amenities
The 2,200 square foot house includes a private wooden fence and a rock paved yard that has a Koi pond, a waterfall and a fountain. The yard also includes stone benches, a hot tub and a cooking area that has a gas and charcoal grill with a smoker. Clients are paired in gender-specific rooms, which include twin beds, a flat screen TV with Cable and a DVD player and dressers. Massage shower jets are provided in all three bathrooms.
While residents are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation, the house includes coffee, cream and sugar. The fully equipped kitchen features stainless steel appliances. Other amenities include laundry facilities, paper products, laundry detergent, linens, pillows, YMCA gym membership, Wi-Fi, XBOX Live, Netflix, Hulu and all utilities included.
Rules and Regulations
Under The Stars Sober Living prefers that clients have completed residential treatment at a drug rehab, but others, with less than 30 days, are admitted on a case-by-case basis. Prior to admission, potential residents must view the house and undergo an interview with staff to ensure that Under The Stars Sober Living is a good fit. Clients must attend 90 12-step meetings in 90 days and obtain sponsors within two weeks of arrival. After that time, clients must still attend regular meetings.
Other requirements include completion of the steps, performance of assigned household chores and attendance at weekly house meetings. Under The Stars Sober Living includes an onsite 8 pm Saturday night AA meeting and a Big Book Study. At Under The Stars Sober Living, clients are held responsible for their actions. Random drug and alcohol testing is conducted. Relapsed clients are evicted immediately from the premises. The 30-day cost is $500, not including a refundable $200 security deposit. The seven-day cost, for those preferring to pay on a weekly basis is $130.
