The Basics
Tucked away in an Atlanta suburb is the headquarters of S&T Assessment and Counseling. It began in 2000 with one office in Newnan, Georgia, and has expanded into a network of more than 40 facilities throughout Georgia that offer outpatient treatment for substance abuse and mental health issues. S&T is qualified to meet court-ordered requirements and provide mental health and addiction treatment for individuals, families and companies whose staff need help.
Treatment and Staff
S&T treats clients primarily through individual therapy. Individuals seeking treatment are initially screened by an LPC, after which they are assigned to a counselor who works with them to develop an individualized treatment plan. The average length of treatment for substance abuse clients ranges from 30 to 90 days with one to two therapy sessions a week. Each session is one hour and primarily employs CBT techniques.
In addition to individual therapy, a family program is available to work with loved ones affected by substance abuse. All family therapy is conducted by an MFT and all families are encouraged to attend Al-Anon meetings for further support. Family services also include in-home therapy sessions, parent education and in-home supervision. For clients with acute mental health needs, S&T offers dual diagnosis support with more intensive treatment and vocational assistance.
The facility does not offer detox. Clients are encouraged to attend support groups and recovery-oriented activities but attending 12-step meetings is not required. Some 12-step methods such as writing a biography are included in therapy sessions. If an individual is court-ordered to seek therapy, S&T provides drug-testing services.
Extras
In addition to one-on-one counseling sessions, S&T offers educational programs and classes including anger management, parenting classes, early intervention, and domestic violence and childhood abuse education.

S&T focuses on planting the seeds of recovery then slowly introducing clients to the process of sobriety. Clients can begin their journey to sobriety with individual therapy, family programs and a wealth of resources, all of which are provided in an intimate and comfortable environment.
