Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health ServicesThe Basics

Founded in 1976 in Arizona’s Santa Cruz County, the non-profit organization Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services (SEABHS) provides treatment for mental health and substance use disorders. In 1995, it merged with other counseling centers in the area to become a major behavioral health provider in Cochise, Graham, Greenlee and Gila Counties. Out of seven facilities, SEABHS offers outpatient substance abuse and addiction treatment to men and women. For those seeking inpatient care, SEABHS counselors can assist in finding an appropriate residential treatment facility.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to admittance, clients undergo comprehensive assessments, including a mental health evaluation that determines if dual diagnosis support or medication management is needed. During the evaluation, clients receive individualized treatment plans.

Clients requiring detox are referred to Community Bridges, which has locations in Payson, Globe, Casa Grande, Benson, Holbrook and Winslow, Arizona. Length of stay for this program is between three and five days. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is provided, including Suboxone for opioid withdrawal. Additionally, dual diagnosis support is provided here as well.

At SEABHS, the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is between three and four months. It includes nine hours a week of group, and individual therapy is scheduled per the client’s needs. All clients are encouraged to attend recovery support meetings that suit their needs; this includes 12-stepSMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, Life Ring Secular Recovery and Women for Sobriety.

Groups are both therapeutic and psycho-educational. Topics include relapse prevention, anger management, recovery support groups, substance abuse education, life skills, stress management and co-occurring disorders. Specialty groups are provided for women so that they may comfortably discuss gender-specific issues.

After the completion of IOP, some clients step down to an outpatient track, which includes three hours of weekly group and continued individual therapy. Clients on medication maintain appointments with their psychiatrists. Groups range in size but typically are no more than 12 clients.

Staff at Community Bridges’ detox includes behavioral health specialists, licensed medical practitioners, registered nurses, peer support specialists and health and wellness instructors. There is also an emergency medical tech (EMT) providing supervision around the clock. SEABHS’s IOP and outpatient have LCSWs, LMHCs, CADCs, recovery coaches, prevention specialists, nurses and psychiatrists. One-on-one sessions are conducted with mental health therapists or CADCs, depending on the individual.

Extras

A family program is provided through SEABHS. Clients and their loved ones are encouraged to participate with the belief that a healthy family core is crucial to recovery. Additionally, family members also receive support and education.

In Summary

Southeastern Arizona Behavioral Health Services offers well-rounded treatment for financially challenged clients. It facilitates individualized care while also encouraging peer support through the recovery program that resonates most with the client. This facility is a great starting point for men and women ready o find relief from both substance use and co-occurring disorders.
