The Basics

Something in Between is a Delray Beach, Florida based transitional living home for men. Owned and operated by Dave Stein, a long time member of the recovery community, Something in Between promotes a strong foundation in the 12 steps. It’s a safe environment that aims to help men who are new to recovery set and achieve goals in sobriety.

Accommodations and Amenities

There are three residences available through Something in Between. All of them are single family homes that have between four and two bedrooms, and between one and three bathrooms. They are set in quiet neighborhoods within the Delray Beach area—all close to public transportation, grocery shopping, AA meetings, employment opportunities, gyms and schools.

The bedrooms are double occupancy in all three facilities and clients are provided with all linens; the kitchen is fully stocked and the appliances are new. All of the spacious, comfortable homes have backyards and patios for residents to enjoy as well. There are also washers and dryers in each location.

Rules and Regulations

Within the first 90 days a client is living at Something in Between, he is required to attend 90 meetings, and immediately get a sponsor. After that initial period, clients have to attend at least four meetings per week. There are breathalyzer tests and drug screenings on a random basis, and if the request to submit is denied the client has to leave.

Within two weeks of entering the program clients are expected to have a job, or be attending school full time or volunteering. The staff is able to help the clients obtain employment if necessary. There are weekly, mandatory house meetings and Big Book study. The house managers and owner can be of service if the client is attending an outpatient or aftercare program, and they are able to coordinate and communicate with any treatment teams the client may have. The staff also keeps all medications and oversees the clients’ administration of them on a daily basis.

There is a revolving list of chores that need to be completed in a timely manner, and the client’s personal space needs to be kept tidy, and the bed made every morning. The common areas need to be kept clean as well. Additionally, all residents are responsible for buying and preparing their own food.

A house manager is responsible for all of the homes, and there are also techs who stay on the premises.

In Summary

Something in Between is a structured sober living option for men transitioning from inpatient treatment back to their regular lives. This organization really requires its clients to fully commit to 12-step principles and put their sobriety first. At the same time, it fosters the importance of upholding professional and personal obligations within both the house and the community at large.
