Journey Home West Young Adult Review
Journey Home’s Young Adult program is the next step in the transitional housing available through Solstice West in Salt Lake City, Utah. This offering is for slightly older young women between the ages of 18 and 23. The program provides a home like setting and consistency while clients hone their life skills, find work or enroll in college, and explore new interests and hobbies. Journey Home Young Adult also provides weekly therapy along with a myriad of other support services.
Accommodations and Amenities
The young women live in a private, upscale five bedroom home with semi private bedrooms, an open floor plan and a recently renovated kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. There is a game room, three living rooms, upstairs loft and a library. Clients also have the option to hang out in the indoor or outdoor lounge, under the covered patio or around the fire pit. The home accommodates up to 11 clients at once.
The location of the residence provides easy access to local shops, grocery stores, gyms, yoga studios, farmers markets and nightlife. The area is also ideal for those who like to participate in outdoor activities like hiking and biking. The house is close to some of the state’s most well known canyons and hiking spots.
Rules and Regulations
This program runs between six months to a year. There is a weekly schedule of coaching sessions, individual and group therapy, health and fitness, recreation and mentorship opportunities. Because the main focus is independence the daily events are customized to accommodate each client specific goals, internists, work and school schedules. There are also psychiatric services available.
As with the other transitional programs through Solstice and Journey Home, the main aspect of the program revolves around the five core principles. These principles entail improving essential elements in the clients lives that will set them up for success once they are living independently. They are healthy living, education, life skills, personal responsibility and social integration. These principles run the gamut from cooking classes, budgeting, college courses, healthy social interactions, employment and accountability.
There is a weekly individual session, and two hour-long group sessions per week. In addition, clients receive hour-long mentoring on a weekly basis, and recreational outings as a group.

Clients are provided with two monthly family therapy sessions.
In Summary
The young adult program is an opportunity for young women who are just not quite ready to be on their own a safe, luxury home to call their own as they take the final steps towards independence. There is a great deal of personal time and the clients have a fair amount of responsibilities. However, they live in a community of similar folks all on the same journey with support and assistance from the staff.
