The Basics
Founded in 2003 in Tarzana, California, Sober Souls Ranch provides co-ed sober living in a comfortable setting for men and women in recovery from chemical dependency. Their belief is that a structured and safe environment, plus a taste of the real world, is crucial in helping a recovering alcoholic or addict make a successful transition back into society.
Accommodations and Amenities
Sober Souls Ranch is comprised of two huge properties, and includes gender-specific homes with high ceilings and gated entries. The houses are spacious with high ceilings. Two to four clients are housed per dorm room, which include custom-built bunk beds, cable TVs, closets and dressers. Approximately 20 clients are lodged at Sober Souls Ranch.
Residents are served a daily breakfast and dinner in a spacious dining room that has tiled floors, two country-style rectangular dining room tables, chairs and old-fashioned chandeliers hanging overhead. Dinner entrees include New York Steak, barbeque chicken and hamburgers. Amenities at Sober Souls Ranch include central air and heating, hi-definition TV with Blu-ray, house computers with Internet, Wi-Fi, and coinless washers and dryers. At Sober Souls Ranch, there is around the clock onsite staff.
Rules and Regulations
At Sober Souls Ranch, potential clients must have completed detox, prior to admittance. They are encouraged to work a program of recovery, which includes attendance at outpatient treatment, individual therapy, counseling or other mental health and wellness-related activities. Referrals for facilities that offer these services are provided for clients. Sober Souls Ranch is rooted in the 12 steps with the belief that those fellowships are a powerful healing tool.
Residents must attend a minimum of five weekly 12-step meetings, work with a sponsor and complete their steps. At Sober Souls Ranch, there are two mandatory 12-step on-site meetings, including a Tuesday night open 7:30 pm CA meeting, hosted in a large courtyard, which is set up like an auditorium complete with chairs, a podium and freestanding patio covers. House business meetings are also mandatory, and are considered part of the weekly meeting requirements.
Sober Souls Ranch practices a zero tolerance policy. Random drug and alcohol screening is conducted, and the facility immediately evicts any relapsed client. Other services provided by Sober Souls Ranch include job placement assistance. Younger clients are encouraged to pursue an academic education or attend vocational training. Los Angeles Pierce Community College is located in close proximity to the facility.

A spacious indoor gym allows clients ample opportunities for exercise.
