The Basics

Sober Estate Centers is a network of sober living houses in the San Fernando Valley, with locations in Winnetka, West Hills and Woodland Hills, California. Recognized for its community service by the state of California Superior Court, Sober Estate Center provides temporary sober housing for clients enrolled in outpatient services as well as individuals on probation or parole. While not a treatment facility, Sober Estates does offer counseling to residents as well as medication management for individuals with co-occurring disorders. Catering to both men and women, the sober living houses require regular participation in local 12-step meetings.

Accommodations and Amenities

Sober Estate Centers include three comfortable and peaceful houses equipped with plenty of amenities. One house is co-ed and the other two are gender-specific, with a maximum capacity of between 11 and 15 residents depending on the location. All of the houses are located within walking distance to a bus or subway stop as well as a grocery store. In addition, each house is situated in close proximity to a hospital as well as a county mental health and probation office. Also, there are multiple 12 step support groups in the area.

The houses are cozy, comfortable and equipped with basic furnishings. There are plenty of amenities including cable TV, a theater room, a washer and dryer as well as a backyard with a peaceful manicured garden space, basketball court, a swimming pool and jacuzzi. Residents enjoy a work-out area complete with free weights and nautilus machines.

Private and shared bedrooms are available, with private rooms costing extra. Bedrooms are equipped with twin size beds, a spacious floor plan and plenty of storage space. Sober Estates provides a TV with cable in every bedroom as well as bed linens and bath towels. In the co-ed house, the bedrooms and bathrooms are gender-specific.

In addition, there is a community computer equipped with a DSL Internet connection, though residents can bring their own computers and use the house WiFi. There is also a community phone for clients that has long-distance capability. Clients enjoy a kitchen with modern amenities including filtered drinking water.

Rules and Regulations

Sober Estate provides an atmosphere of recovery in each of the houses, applying the tranquility of 12 steps in the design of its community. Every effort is made to provide a communal environment that encourages mutual respect and socializing while still allowing for the individual privacy needed in recovery.

All residents must complete a detox process before they are allowed into the housing. Clients must agree to random drug testing. In addition, clients must agree to attend regular 12-step support meetings both inside the house and in the community. In fact, the contract specifically requires having a sponsor and working on the steps during their stay. Residents are responsible for buying and preparing their own food.

Extras

The Sober Estate Center’s administrator is available to those in need of dual diagnosis support for medication management.

In Summary

Sober Estate Centers is a network of sober living facilities for clients transitioning out of residential treatment, currently enrolled in outpatient services or on parole or probation. With locations in Winnetka, West Hills and Woodland Hills, the facility has been commended for its service to the community, and the houses are designed for those still seeking peace. For clients seeking a peaceful sober living facility with favorable location near supermarkets, hospitals and 12-step support groups, Sober Estate Centers is a good resource.
