The Basics
For over five years, SOAP MAT has provided low-cost Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Oceanside, California, a beach community located in northern San Diego County. SOAP offers treatment plans using both methadone and Suboxone, and all clients have regular individual therapy with a primary counselor throughout the course of treatment. SOAP was founded by doctors Bart and Laura Rossi, psychologists with several decades of experience treating substance abuse and working with at-risk populations.
Treatment and Staff
SOAP has two structured methadone tapering programs and an on-going methadone maintenance program. The tapering options include 21-day and 180-day programs, during which time clients work with their physician and counselor to gradually cease MAT. Maintenance clients can choose to taper at a later date, should they so choose. Suboxone clients work closely with their physician to determine their dose and tapering time-frame. The treatment team reviews and adjusts each clients’ treatment plan every 90 days, and most clients can apply for take-home doses after 90 days.
In addition to dosing, all clients have individual therapy a minimum of three times a month. Therapy at SOAP is based on the Harm Reduction Model. Clinicians use a variety of evidence-based modalities to help clients identify goals and examine how their choices can prevent or advance achieving them. The treatment team also encourages clients to attend outside peer support meetings such as SMART Recovery or NA.
SOAP specializes in assisting pregnant and post-natal women with healthy methadone use. While the treatment team can address co-occurring disorders in therapy, it refers clients in need of dual diagnosis support and family therapy to nearby mental health clinics.
In terms of credentials, the treatment team at SOAP includes CADCs, LVNs and physicians.
