The Basics
Serenity Springs Recovery is a multi-faceted behavioral health program based out of Edgewater, Florida. It provides treatment to adults struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. The facility was founded by Jim Marshall, a former narcotics investigator who sought to open an affordable local treatment program for addicts. In addition to residential treatment for men, the organization also provides outpatient and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) to men and women in New Smyrna Beach.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. On-site detox services are not available but those in need can get referrals to nearby programs as needed. Though IOP offers flexible scheduling, clients generally meet at least three times a week for several hours per session.
While programs may vary, all of them include both individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and EMDR. The curriculum draws heavily on 12-step recovery principles, with all clients required to work a program and get a sponsor. Participants can also complete all 12 steps within the program if they wish. Dual diagnosis support including medication management is also available. Groups cover a wide range of topics such as addiction education, trigger identification, emotional processing and relapse prevention.
All programs include medical and psychiatric oversight as well. The staff at Serenity Springs Recovery consists of MDs, psychiatrists, physicians’ assistants, LMHCs, LCSWs and additional Master’s-level clinicians. The organization boasts a two-to-one staff-to-client ratio.
Extras
Additional holistic services including acupuncture and yoga. Standalone family therapy and psychological assessments are also available. More specialized is its amino acid recovery therapy, a kind of alternative detox program lasting 10 days for six to eight hours a day. These sessions generally include intravenous injections of minerals and amino acids to help rebuild clients’ neurotransmitters. As mentioned, the facility also offers residential care for men in need of more intensive treatment; outpatient plans can be stepped down as a form of aftercare as well.
