The Basics
The Self Help Center in Casper, Wyoming provides outpatient treatment services for adult men and women struggling with substance abuse issues. In the foothills of the Laramie Mountains, SHC has been helping residents for over 10 years.
Treatment and Staff
Outpatient services are provided in a pleasant mixed commercial/residential neighborhood on the east side of Casper. The facility is a converted single-family home renovated to include a welcoming waiting area, two rooms for group sessions and a counseling office.
The first step in treatment is an evaluation by an LCSW. Eligible clients are placed in either the regular outpatient program or the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which meets nine hours per week for a total of eight weeks. Groups take place on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 6 pm to 9 pm and topics include addiction studies, identifying triggers, coping skills, introduction to the 12-steps, family dynamics and communication skills. Clients are also encouraged to attend at least four AA/NA meetings per week. Individual sessions are not included in IOP but can be scheduled if deemed necessary. Groups are limited to eight clients and are facilitated by a CADC.
Regular outpatient clients meet on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30 pm to 7 pm for a total of three weeks. Group topics are similar to those in IOP and sessions are limited to eight individuals and are also facilitated by a CADC. Clients who complete the IOP or the outpatient track are encouraged to attend the 10-week relapse prevention program that meets Tuesdays from 4 pm to 6 pm. Clients who have completed aftercare are eligible to attend a continuous aftercare group every Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 pm.

DUI classes are offered every Friday.
In Summary
SHC provides traditional outpatient and IOP substance abuse services and encourages clients to become involved in the 12-step programs for support. While family and adolescent services are not available, this program is an affordable choice for those who need basic outpatient services and/or aftercare.
