The Basics
Located in Snohomish County in Monroe, Washington is the Monroe Behavioral Health Center of Sea Mar Community Health Center. This facility offers Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) with an emphasis on dual diagnosis programming and a structured schedule of evidence-based treatment that includes group and individual therapy, psychoeducation and aftercare planning. Treatment through this Sea Mar location is available to adolescents and adults who are in need of substance abuse and mental health care.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is available to adult clients who have been referred by the court in order to comply with a state mandated requirement due to a DUI or other crime that is associated with a drug or alcohol dependency, or are coming to receive treatment on their own accord. During the assessment process an individualized treatment plan is put together that consists of therapy and educational services along with life skills training and assistance. There is no set amount of time that clients are required to be in the program if they’re self admitted.
The IOP runs during the week between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm, and the facility is able to be a bit flexible with their clients schedules. There are typically up to nine hours of treatment initially each week that are mainly in a group setting, and one individual session per week. There is a dual diagnosis specific group with access to a psychiatric evaluation and medication management. Relapse prevention, coping skills and life skills training is implemented into treatment and classes specifically geared towards those who have a DUI are also provided.
Therapeutic practices include CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Family Systematic Intervention techniques. Though the treatment provided through this facility is not based on the 12 steps, staff doesn’t discourage their clients from connecting with a supportive AA, NA or SMART Recovery community.
The staff at the Monroe location specializes in culturally sensitive and competent programming services and undergo extensive training to properly address their clients’ dual diagnosis issues. Staff accreditations include LCDC, psychiatric advanced practice nurses, psychiatrists and LPC.

There are family counseling services and aftercare monitoring on a monthly basis.
