The Basics
For more than 40 years, Schuylkill Health Counseling Center North Outpatient has been offering outpatient substance abuse services out of St. Clair, Pennsylvania. While treatment at Schuylkill does not follow the 12-step approach, the program utilizes therapeutic services including individual and group therapy with varying levels of intensity.
Schuylkill Health Counseling Center North is currently in the process of changing its name, and is joining the LeHigh Valley Health Network.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to beginning treatment, prospective Schuylkill clients meet with a counselor for a two-hour assessment. Clients and counselors work together to determine the level of treatment appropriate to each client. Clients enrolled in the Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) attend on average three groups per week and also attend a minimum of one individual session per week.
Clients requiring a lower intensity of treatment enroll in the basic outpatient track which also doubles as Schuylkill’s continuing care option. This track asks clients to attend groups once a week as well as one individual session per month.
Educational programs are also available on-site and clients are highly encouraged to attend outside AA/NA meetings if it aligns with their viewpoint and their individual sobriety goals.
Schuylkill Health Counseling Center North staff consists of a Master’s-level therapist, a Bachelor’s-level therapist and LSWs. An LPC acts as Schuylkill’s director, while a psychiatrist can also be brought on-site as needed.
Extras
Clients requiring additional support are encouraged to invite their family and loved ones to attend therapeutic services. Additionally, IOP clients are given the opportunity to step down to the basic outpatient level as a form of aftercare.
