The Basics

Saluscare is a broad behavioral health organization and the result of a merger between Lee Mental Health Center and Southwest Florida Addiction Services (SWFAS) in 2013. The company is CARF-accredited and provides flexible treatment programs to both adults and adolescents. In addition to its more intensive residential treatment programs, Saluscare also provides outpatient care in varying intensities for clients struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning treatment, all clients go through an initial intake and assessment process to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. Those in need of detox can do so through one of Saluscare’s local facilities before continuing onto therapy; this phase of treatment generally lasts anywhere from three to 10 days. Once stabilized, participants can continue on to treatment.

Though the schedule of each plan may vary, all programs include individual, group and family therapy with evidence-based practices including CBT and trauma-informed care. Groups cover a wide range of subjects including anger management, 12-step recovery, healthy relationships, addiction education, life skills, vocational skills and relapse prevention. Dual diagnosis support services are also available including medication management whenever necessary.

The staff at Saluscare Outpatient consists of LMHCs, LCDCs, RNs, case managers, CADCs, psychiatrists and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Saluscare also offers separate treatment programs for adults and adolescents with co-occurring disorders. Priority admission is provided to pregnant women, women with children and intravenous drug users. In most of the above programs, participants are randomly drug tested throughout to ensure that they remain sober.

Clients mandated to treatment through drug court can also attend their own program track as well. A related option is the Forensic Diversion program, a program designed to treat clients with severe mental illness out in order to keep them out of jail or mental institutions. Another option is the Maternal Assistance Program (MAP), an option which offers affordable substance abuse treatment to new mothers. Finally, those who complete primary care can step down the intensity of therapy as a form of aftercare as well.

In Summary

Overall, Saluscare provides a full continuum of treatment services to adults and adolescents struggling with addiction and related mental illnesses. Treatment includes 12-step support, evidence-based care, educational groups and a host of ancillary therapy services, all for court-ordered and self-referred clients alike. For those in the area seeking an affordable care option, Saluscare’s outpatient services are worth considering.
