The Robert Ruth House is a National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) sober living facility for men located in Delaware Water Gap, PA. This recovery home is open to men who have completed an inpatient program and need support, with an emphasis on the first 28 days after treatment. This program operates by the philosophies of the 12-steps and requires a good amount of accountability and desire to maintain a life of sobriety.

Accommodations and Amenities

The residence is a two story, five bed and three bath single family home. The facility can accommodate up to 10 men when at capacity. The home is upscale and spacious, providing a number of comforts and amenities for their clients. This includes a large living room with TV and cable, and wifi throughout the home. There is also an office space, full kitchen and dining room, and jacuzzi tubs in the bathrooms.

The home is close to local sightseeing locations, such as the Appalachian Trail for hiking, and local waterways for kayaking and rafting. There are also a number of house-led excursions like the local jazz festival, antiquing and more. There is limited transportation available to residents.

Rules and Regulations

The first 30 days are considered a probationary period. During the first two weeks, clients have limited communication with their families, so there are no in-person visits or frequent phone calls. Cell phone access isn’t granted until the 30 day mark. During this initial phase clients need to secure a 12-step, home group and sponsor, and actively be seeking employment that takes clients out of the facility between the hours of 9:00am to 4:00pm. There is also a curfew of 10:00pm nightly. After the first month clients can request to have their curfew extended to 11:00 p.m. on weekends.

During the first 90 days, clients are required to attend 90 AA or NA meetings that are signed off on. After 90 days have passed, residents are responsible for attending five meetings per week. Clients also have to submit to weekly, random drug screenings.

Attendance at weekly house meetings is mandatory, and clients need to make sure that their employment does not interfere with those meetings. There is a board that lists the daily and weekly chores, all of which need to be completed in a timely manner. In addition to general chores, clients are responsible for keeping their personal spaces clean and tidy, cleaning the kitchen after every meal, and not leaving personal items around the house, especially in the bathrooms.

Along with the list of chores, there is also a posted written copy of the house rules. At the time of move-in, clients read and initial their own copy of these rules, any time after that if any rules are broken it is up to the discretion of the house manager on how to handle the situation.

There is a house manager on site at all times.

In Summary

The Robert Ruth House is a safe, comfortable and clean facility that provides a peaceful and serene environment for men in the beginning stages of recovery. There are a lot of rules and regulations that need to be abided, with the intention to provide an environment that is conducive to sobriety.
