The Ridge Review
Located 25 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati, Ohio, The Ridge is an upscale residential substance abuse treatment center, in operation for about 30 years. The Ridge offers a month-long program with a substantial family component. As an added bonus, a year of aftercare comes as part of the 30-day residential package.
Accommodations and Food
The Ridge grounds span 51 acres and include a sauna, a pool, a fishing pond and are surrounded by a wooded area. The Ridge keeps its client roster low, offering only 15 beds in a colonial-style home, in the style of a bed and breakfast. Clients share a bedroom with one other person. For an additional cost and pending availability (which is usually very limited), a client can stay in a private room. Each room has its own bathroom. The home also has common areas, two living rooms and a formal dining area. All meals are included in cost of stay and prepared by two on-site chefs who focus on nutrition. Snacks are also available and dietary restrictions and preferences can be accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at The Ridge may start with an on-site three to five-day detox. Post-detox clients enter residential treatment, a very intensive physician run 12-step-based program. The program utilizes CBT and offers 35 hours of therapy per week, including group, individual and family sessions. Outside AA/NA meetings are available in nearby Ohio communities. Treatment also includes an exercise and recreation regime, four to five days a week.
To compliment therapy, The Ridge provides clients with a lecture series. It is comprised of six one-hour lectures on the addiction as disease model given by a certified addictionologist. The Ridge is able to address minor mental health issues like anxiety, depression and mild cases of bipolar disorder but refers those with more severe dual-diagnosis cases to outside organizations. While a standard stay is a month-long, extended stays can be arranged for those who need it. If clients choose to leave prematurely, The Ridge does try to persuade them otherwise, but they are free to go.
The Ridge has both a medical doctor and a psychiatrist on-site, as well as nurses and Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Art therapy, yoga, bowling and museum visits are also available.
In Summary
The Ridge’s residential substance abuse treatment program is well-rounded and its facility is luxurious and well-located. The Ridge’s track record is substantial enough to warrant trust in its treatment methods. The Ridge accepts most insurance plans as an out-of-network provider, but Medicare and Medicaid are not accepted. For luxury 12-step oriented rehab in Ohio, this is a great option.
