The Basics
Toledo, Ohio based Rescue Mental Health and Addiction Services provides emergency stabilization services for children, adolescents and adults who are experiencing a mental health crisis. Treatment is short term and include individual and group therapy, medication management and referrals for case management.
Accommodations and Food
The adolescent wing of Rescue is small, only five beds, and the clients share all the accommodations and bathrooms. There are also adults that stay in this facility, but the younger clients are always separate from them. There are common areas throughout the building, like a lounge with a TV, and a dining area. All the meals are provided for clients and are prepared on site.
Treatment and Staff
The treatment at Rescue for the adolescents is an alternative to a longer hospital stay. In most cases clients are admitted or brought in and stay for less then two weeks as they are stabilized, receive the proper medication, and are then referred to another facility for additional treatment. There are also services offered to those who are in the Toledo Juvenile Detention Center where a counselor from Rescue comes to their facility for treatment.
Rescue is open for assessments seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The younger clients are always put on a treatment plan that is individualized and with the cooperation of the parents or guardians. The initial intake includes a psychological evaluation, medication and a physical exam by a nurse. In some cases the clients don’t need to stay at the facility, while others may elect to be admitted to the crisis unit for the short stay. This phase does include group and individual therapy, frequent monitoring and discharge planning. There are also diagnosis services for those who need to be evaluated for a co-occurring disorder.
The younger clients have several different therapeutic approaches and methods used during their treatment. There is play therapy, CBT, DBT and art and music therapy and expressive therapies. Staff is also able to coordinate their treatments with the family physician, school and other agencies.
The staff includes LCSWs, CADCs, RNs, psychologists and case managers.
