The Basics
Located 30 minutes southwest of Kansas City, Renew Counseling Center is a treatment facility designed for children, adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders co-occurring mental health issues. It also assists individuals with personal issues and couples seeking counseling. Founded in 2005, Renew offers standard outpatient services as well as a comprehensive Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for clients with eating disorders like anorexia, bulimia, binge eating and orthorexia. All treatment programs are tailored to the unique needs and goals of the client. To this end, Renew utilizes a bio-psycho-social approach to care that integrates a number of therapies in individual, group and family settings. It’s worth mentioning, 12-step is not a component of the programming. Renew is situated in an upscale home off the 119th Street exit from Interstate 35.
Treatment and Staff
Renew Counseling Center treats a range of personal issues including stress, grief and marital problems as well as mental health conditions like depression, anxiety, trauma, OCD and phobias. Programming can be scheduled around work, school and family. This gives individuals the opportunity to immediately apply techniques learned in treatment in their regular life. Before beginning care, clients undergo a thorough personal evaluation that helps the primary therapists design the most effective individualized treatment plan customized to the specific needs of the person.
Renew seeks to uncover the root causes of issues through individualized treatment. To this end, the facility offers a multi-theoretical approach to care that synchronizes several therapeutic methods including evidence-based models, humanistic and relational theories as well as psychodynamic therapy to reveal unconscious content. Clients engage in individual and group therapy that focus on body image and self-esteem. Therapists educate on the disease of eating disorders, utilize CBT in group sessions to remove negative self talk and explore humanistic theory to help develop a stronger sense of self and a meaning to life. In addition, clients struggling with eating disorders work regularly with a registered dietitian. This includes going to restaurants, meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping and discussing fears and negative habits surrounding food and exercise.
Renew is comprised of a multi-disciplinary team that includes LMFTs, LPC, PhD-level therapists, registered dietitians, social workers, interns and a psychiatrist. Medication management is available for clients with co-occurring disorders in need of dual diagnosis support.
Extras
Renew offers reduced fee options for clients without the necessary funds. The facility provides therapy through Master’s-level student interns.
