The Basics
Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa was founded in 1800 in Bayfield, Wisconsin, a small town on Lake Superior. The organization provides outpatient counseling to adult men and women living on or near the Red Cliff reservation.
Treatment and Staff
Red Cliff operates on a sliding scale to accommodate clients of all economic backgrounds and is free for tribal members who don’t have health insurance. Treatment is based on the Matrix Model and consists of individual and group therapy that uses CBT, as well as relapse prevention techniques.
There are two treatment tracks available: an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a standard outpatient program. Clients in the IOP meet for group twice a week and once a week for individual therapy, while the standard track consists of one individual meeting a week. Groups are held on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and generally include up to five clients. Native American culture and the 12 steps are integrated into treatment when applicable. Although it is a group setting, counselors aim to address each individual needs.
Red Cliff is equipped to treat clients with a dual diagnosis and clients with potential co-occurring disorders are referred to the mental health staff.
Red Cliff’s substance abuse counselors are CSACs.
Extras
Red Cliff offers a family program that consists of group and individual meetings, with the client’s consent, to discuss co-dependency and substance abuse education.
The organization also has a sweat lodge on the grounds.
