The Basics
Recovery Homes is a foundation that provides several sober living homes throughout southern Florida for men and women who have recently left an inpatient residential program and are in need of additional support during their transition. Clients learn how to create healthy relationships and get back on their feet through the peer guidance and structured daily programming of regular 12-step meetings and case management assistance.
Accommodations and Amenities
Recovery Works operates six homes that are gender-specific along with one that is specifically for members of the LGBTQ community. Each of the facilities are spacious and comfortable and set within safe and quiet neighborhoods. Clients are in semi-private bedrooms and share bathrooms with two or three other clients. Every one of the locations has cable TV and Wifi throughout the homes, a washer and dryer, linens, cleaning supplies and a fully stocked kitchen.
In several locations there are also swimming pools in the backyard. Additionally the facilities are close to some of Florida’s beaches.
Rules and Regulations
The homes must be maintained by the residents who have a revolving schedule of household daily chores as well as the responsibility to keep their personal spaces tidy. Every client is required to hold themselves and others accountable, and if a relapse happens during their stay they have to leave immediately. This kind of program is open to those who are truly interested in remaining in recovery, and mandatory attendance of regular AA or NA meetings within the community are expected, and initially have to be signed off on.
There are regular house meetings weekly that serve as check in’s with the residential staff. Clients work on issues like anger management and are offered nutrition classes and budgeting assistance. Clients have to seek out work or enroll in school in order to remain in the program, and are provided with resources and assistance when seeking out these things. Staff can offer resume building and interview skills training, help clients work on their time management skills, along with money management and personal hygiene. The facility also provides bus passes to their clients so they can get to appointments on their own, or help them get their driver’s licenses back.
In Summary
One of the biggest benefits of the Recovery Works programs are the camaraderie one experiences through the homes. There is a sense of support not only from the residential staff, but also from the other residents that provides a sense of well being and boosts self esteem. Clients learn new skills and get help regaining some old ones. There is a focus on owning one’s recovery and healing from within while also teaching responsibility and actively seeking out positive connections within their sober environments.
