The Basics
Rebecca Mowen works as an interventionist at Recovery 360, in St. Louis, Missouri as well as being the program administrator of the Missouri Dental Well Being Program. Mowen is a licensed clinical therapist in Illinois and Missouri, as well as member of the Association of Intervention Specialists (AIS). She has a BS in psychology from Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville and her Master of Social Work (MSW) from the Saint Louis University. Ms. Mowen has spent the past 12 years working in the field of recovery. She has been the CEO and president of Recovery 360 for almost a decade. In the past, Mowen has worked as the assistant program coordinator of the Missouri Physician Health Program. She also works with adolescents and their families as well as adult clients as a therapist with the Gateway Foundation.
The Approach
Mowen describes her style of intervention as “eclectic” and individualizes it to meet the needs of each client on a case by case basis. To achieve this, she borrows from various approaches like the Johnson, Arise and Systemic Family models. Depending on the situation, she either utilizes the surprise approach or integrates the client in the planning meetings. These include the family and loved ones.
Her intervention services include the initial assessment, the strategy selection and planning processes. She leads the family’s preparation as well the development of each member’s intervention letter. She typically holds at least one session where she helps the family practice how they will do the intervention. She facilitates the intervention herself and coordinates treatment options. In cases where clients choose to proceed into rehab, she helps them navigate the admissions process. She is also available for the family, offering referrals for counseling and support groups.
Post-Intervention and Summary
Rebecca Mowen’s work with Recovery 360 does not limit itself to interventions but extends to family, couples and individual therapy. It is also through Recovery 360 that Mowen provides intervention clients with aftercare, monitoring and recovery coaching. Emphasizing strongly on aftercare and monitoring for all involved parties, Mowen‘s services extend to relapse prevention. While she does not make decision for clients and their families, Recovery 360 does follow the 12-step recovery model as its basic philosophy in offering its treatment services and recommends it accordingly.
