RAW (Recovery and Wellness) Recovery is a structured sober living facility located in Southern California’s Orange County. By instilling the 12-step philosophy and emphasizing how important purpose and accountability are, clients live day to day in recovery within a supportive community of like minded individuals. RAW Recovery clients reside in safe and comfortable houses and receive guidance from sober and reliable staff members.
Accommodations and Amenities
RAW Recovery has three modern home-like facilities located throughout Orange County. They are the Paisley House in Huntington Beach, Richmond House in Costa Mesa and the Triplex Residences, which makes up six living spaces, also in Costa Mesa. Perhaps most noteworthy, every one of RAW Recovery’s homes is gender-specific.
Each of the upscale homes is fully furnished and recently renovated. The houses can accommodate between eight and 10 people, and the triplex units are big enough for four clients in each. There are single and double occupancy bedrooms, all furnished with full or queen sized beds. There are several bathrooms in each facility, some of which have separate showers and freestanding tubs.
Clients have access to all areas of the homes, like the living room with flat screen TV and cozy couches. The kitchen is fully stocked with utensils and cooking paraphernalia. Clients can cook at the house for themselves or go out to eat. The houses are all situated in close proximity to restaurants and grocery stores.
Rules and Regulations
Though RAW Recovery does believe in showing their clients that there is fun to be had in sobriety, they do require a structure to their residences. There are curfews and chores that need to be completed every day. House rules include keeping each personal and shared space clean and tidy, and after a set amount of time in the program, to seek out employment or enroll in school. There are also regular, random drug tests every week.
RAW Recovery requires every client to attend several AA or NA meetings per week and get a sponsor. They work the steps and give back to their communities in the form of community service. There are also options for clients to go to an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and staff is readily available to assist with connecting their clients to a reputable facility.
One of the philosophies that work at RAW is the commitment to serving the community through volunteerism. The staff does not require clients to volunteer but they do encourage it.
There are house meetings every week that clients needs to attend. There is a certain amount of freedom at these facilities, but clients do have to check in with the house managers and have open communication with staff and other residents.
All the facilities has a full time, live in manager on site. There are also outreach and operations staff members who are on call to assist their clients if needed.
Finally, residents can expect numerous recovery based activities and outings on a regular basis. Clients head out to the beach, go surfing together, have movie nights and play group sports.
Above all, RAW Recovery provides a positive and encouraging community in which men and women can really jump into a life in sobriety with both feet. The houses are comfortable and very nice, making for a safe place that they enjoy coming home to. In the end, the success of RAW Recovery comes from the structure and supportive staff who engages the clients and lead by example.
