Rathdrum IdahoThe Basics

Rathdrum Counseling Center, LLC offers outpatient services for adults and adolescents struggling with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Located on the Idaho Panhandle about 14 miles from Coeur D’Alene and 30 miles from Spokane, Washington, this Kootenai County facility has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and addiction education services using evidence based methods of treatment.

Treatment and Staff

The first step in treatment is an assessment facilitated by a Licensed Substance Abuse Counselor (LSAC). Following evaluation, each client is assigned a primary counselor who then works with the client to devise an individualized treatment plan. Those with co-occurring disorders are also assigned to a psychiatrist who works with the primary therapist and oversees any required medication management. Duration of treatment is based on the assessment and individual progress.

Rathdrum’s IOP schedules group therapy on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings from 5-7 pm and Thursday afternoons from 12-2 pm. Counselors utilize CBT and session topics include addiction studies, managing stress, introduction to the 12-steps, identifying triggers and relapse prevention. Groups typically have staff-to-client ratio of one-to-eight. Gender specific groups are also offered.

Clients who require a less intensive curriculum are enrolled in a basic outpatient program requiring attendance of one or two groups per week (depending on the assessment and progress) along with an individual therapy session every two weeks. Adolescents attend one group per week with one individual therapy session. In additon to CBT, counselors use Motivational Interviewing (MI) and topics include peer pressure, family dynamics, healthy hobbies, identifying triggers and coping skills. Clients under the age of 16 must have consent from a parent or legal guardian for treatment. Both adults and adolescents are strongly encouraged to seek outside support including 12-step programs. While not required, attendance of at least three AA/NA meetings per week is recommended.

Co-occurring disorder clients work with CADCs and a behavioral health physician to support their dual diagnosis needs. Treatment includes co-occurring disorder-specific individual and group therapy, community integration, case management, and medication management.

Rathdrum staff includes CADCs and LSACs.

Extras

Rathdrum also has an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and Case Management Services which assists eligible clients in obtaining medical and dental care along with transportation and housing vouchers.
