The Basics

Located in Hot Springs, Arkansas, Quapaw House is a CARF-accredited behavioral health organization founded in 1980. It provides a range of affordable treatment programs for clients struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders. In addition to its residential treatment option, the organization also offers outpatient, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and partial day treatment tracks.

Treatment and Staff

Before beginning a program, all clients go through an initial assessment to help staff members place them in an appropriate treatment plan. Those in need of detox can do so through Quapaw House at its Hot Springs and Little Rock locations. Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is available as well. Once stabilized, participants move on to one of the organization’s many outpatient tracks.

The most intensive option is the day treatment program, which is analogous to a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP). This track essentially follows the same full-day schedule as residential treatment though clients can return home at the end of it. IOP lasts 12 weeks and meets for group therapy four times a week for two hours per session along with weekly individual therapy. Finally, traditional outpatient lasts 12 weeks and meets twice a week in groups for two hours and biweekly for individual therapy.

Treatment implements evidence-based practices including CBT and DBT. Clients are introduced to the 12-step principles of recovery and expected to attend AA and Alanon meetings as well. Support for co-occurring disorders is available along with medication management when necessary. Groups cover a wide range of topics including case management, relapse prevention, coping skills, addiction education and family dynamics. Those in the more intensive PHP track are also served three meals a day along with the residential clients.

The staff at Quapaw House consists of MDs, CADCs, LACs, LPCs, RNs, case managers and additional Master’s-level clinicians.

Extras

Quapaw House offers a number of prevention and intervention services as well as community outreach programs. These include yoga, dance and exercise classes, bingo nights and other rotating activities. Child care services are also available for clients in treatment. Those who finish primary care can also continue on to one of many sober living homes partnered with Quapaw House. Those seeking aftercare can also continue with outpatient therapy at a stepped down rate.

In Summary

Overall, Quapaw House is a small organization with a vast amount of programming and a full continuum of available treatment. Outpatient plans come in several intensities and include dual diagnosis support, evidence-based care, 12-step integration and ancillary support services. For those in the area looking for a one-stop-shop of a program, Quapaw House’s outpatient plans are likely worth considering.
