Priory Hospital Chelmsford Overview

The Priory Group is a large network of treatment centers scattered throughout the UK. Its Chelmsford location is a 60 bed treatment facility offering a wide variety of services for adolescents and adults. Priory Hospital Chelmsford uses a multidisciplinary approach within an inpatient setting. The clinical team can address addiction, behavioral health and dual diagnosis. Priory originally opened the Chelmsford facility in 1992. Since that time, it has earned a reputation for being one of the leading treatment facilities in the UK.

Accommodations and Food

There are a couple of housing facilities at the 19th Century-built Chelmsford branch of Priory—one for adult clients struggling with acute mental health disorders, and one for addiction. The mental health facilities are in the main hospital, divided into two wards. Priory Chelmsford refers to them as the Danbury unit and the Chelmer Unit. Both of these wards are mixed gender and offer private bedrooms. However, the Danbury unit is a bit more restrictive than the Chelmer side. Those clients don’t eat with the other residents and basically remain in their ward at all times. The addiction facility is called The Lodge. It has a three bed private residential area, and a 16 bed facility as well.

These separate housing units are on a three acre campus that has several common areas. Residents enjoy lounges, outdoor and indoor dining areas, and landscaped gardens. Every client has a private bedroom, and access to the art room and chapel.

The majority of clients eat at the on-site restaurant on a daily basis. The Priory Chelmsford serves healthy, well-balanced meals. There are always several options every meal time.

Treatment and Staff

Incoming clients have a no obligation assessment before deciding to seek treatment at Priory Chelmsford. During this intake clients discuss their treatment plans with the provider, and if they do decide to move forward with treatment, have the option to undergo detox before the 28 day residential program.

The program has daily group therapy and several psychoeducational workshops. Throughout their stay, clients have 12-step meetings on and off site. Participants can also expect CBT, trauma-informed care, and relapse prevention. They explore common issues like anger management, codependency, and self esteem.

During treatment clients see their psychiatrists two times a week and have access to an on-call medical doctor six days a week. They also receive nutritional counseling and participate in a series of holistic activities.

There is a large staff at Priory Hospital in Chelmsford. It includes psychiatrists, addiction counselors, psychiatric nurses and peer counselors.

Extras

Graduates of the mental health treatment at Priory Chelmsford can participate in the year long aftercare program free of charge.

In addition to the traditional treatment approaches, the staff also incorporates yoga, meditation and exercise into daily programming.

In Summary

The Chelmsford location of Priory Hospital is a beautiful campus with spacious housing options and well established treatment approaches. Clients have around the clock assistance from a caring staff that treats them with respect and dignity. Between the lovely campus, the amenities and extensive programming, this is an excellent Priory facility.
