The Basics
For more than five years, Stateline Medical has been providing residents of Northwestern New Jersey with outpatient treatment that combines Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using methadone with therapeutic services. The clinic is located in Phillipsburg, a small town in Warren County bordering the Lehigh Valley.
Stateline is a member of the Pinnacle provider network, which operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan. Stateline shares a building with Suboxone Services of Phillipsburg, also owned by Pinnacle, which provides Suboxone prescriptions but does not have treatment groups.
Treatment and Staff
After clients are assessed, they receive a treatment plan that includes individual and group therapy in addition to MAT. Clients must attend one-on-one or group sessions at least once a month during their first phase of treatment (which usually lasts 90 days), though it is recommended that they attend counseling at least once a week. With successful attendance and clean drug screens, clients can step down to less frequent therapy sessions in subsequent phases of treatment.
The treatment team at Stateline includes CADCs, LACs, nurses and physicians. Therapy uses CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) to address early recovery issues, handling triggers, the disease of addiction and relapse prevention. Counselors may also help clients locate local peer support meetings such as AA/NA. Many Stateline clients have had success at SMART Recovery meetings, and the treatment team strongly encourages clients to try the SMART framework.
While co-occurring disorders are addressed in therapy, clients in need of dual diagnosis support are referred to nearby mental health clinics. After clients have completed 90 days of successful treatment, they can begin applying for additional take-home doses of methadone.

Stateline encourages families to take part in treatment and welcomes them to attend individual therapy for family counseling as-needed. It also holds a family education night each month.
