The Basics
Founded in 2006, Pinnacle Treatment Centers began with just two chemical dependency treatment facilities in Pennsylvania. Over time, PTC has expanded to include inpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment programs in Indiana, New Jersey, Kentucky, Virginia, Minnesota, Michigan and Ohio.
Mount Pocono Medical focuses on opiates, offering outpatient therapeutic services with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT). MPM is managed by Monique Sheppard, a treatment professional who has worked in the mental health field since 2003.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are scheduled for an assessment to determine if MPM is the best fit for their needs and whether they’re in need of dual diagnosis support. MPM provides MAT detox with methadone. Staff develop an individualized treatment plan for each client that combines MAT and therapeutic services. Clients attend group and individual therapy, where they participate in evidence-based treatment such as CBT.
Clients meet with their primary counselors for an hour-long session once per month. They also attend one-hour groups a minimum of once per month, but come to the facility daily to receive their dosage. A physician monitors methadone dosage and ensures stabilization and progress. Clients are also drug tested each week to make sure they are maintaining abstinence. For every three clean tests, the client is permitted to take home one dose. This increases over time to a maximum of six take home doses.
Clients are encouraged to stabilize for at least one month, but some continue with their doses for more than a year. Therapeutic activities are overseen by CADCs or CSWs. Most clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings to develop a sober community.

MPM provides referrals to sober living facilities and any other community resources that may support the recovery process. Clients may also inquire about family therapy.
