sober living ocala floridaThe Basics

Perspectives Drug and Alcohol Treatment is an organization that operates two outpatient and detox facilities and three sober living homes in Ocala, Gainesville and Summerfield, Florida.  Its sober housing was created to provide a safe, home-like environment for men and women who suffer from the disease of addiction. Residents can choose to attend Perspectives’ Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), which includes an option for long-term Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) and dedicated groups for dual diagnosis support. Clients also have the option of participating in the New Perspectives Healthy living program, which helps them develop a sober lifestyle and encourages continued mental, physical, spiritual and social growth beyond treatment.

Accommodations and Amenities

The two men’s homes in Ocala and Gainesville are large residences in quiet neighborhoods surrounded by trees. The women’s home is ranch-style with a pool in the backyard. In total, the facilities house 18 men and six women in double-occupancy bedrooms with twin or full-sized beds, dressers and closet space. Homes are fully furnished with large common areas equipped with big screen TVs, cable, high-speed Internet, on-site laundry and a kitchen with new appliances. Bedding, linens and cleaning supplies are also provided.

Residents are expected shop and cook for themselves and are free to pick up whatever they’d like in terms of meal choices. Perspectives offers a food stamp program to clients who qualify. All homes are near malls, shops, grocery stores and local AA/NA meetings as well.

Rules and Regulations

In order to move in, residents must commit to attending daily AA meetings, obtaining a sponsor within two weeks of arrival and working the 12 steps. Residents must also attend life coaching sessions five days a week and weekly individual sessions. Clients who are unable to work must be willing to find a volunteer position with a comparable time commitment. Finally, residents must comply with weekly drug and alcohol tests to ensure they remain sober. In the event of relapse, clients are evicted immediately.

There is a six-month minimum required stay with the program, and within that time residents have access to Perspectives’ Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) if they want to continue treatment and staff members assist with getting them set up. The house manager and support staff are available 24 hours a day to aid clients with whatever they need, and are able to provide help with meeting locations, job placement services and life skills training. Relapse prevention and addiction education classes are also available.

Extras

The facility provides gym memberships for all residents. Additionally, all transportation to appointments, activities and meetings is provided by the staff.

In Summary

Perspectives Sober Living offers a safe and structured environment while also helping residents address the medical, psychological and social aspects of addiction. Clients benefit from continued guidance and support with plenty of supplemental therapeutic resources and experienced staff.

For the safety and privacy of clients, the exact addresses of the homes are not made public.
