The Basics
Las Vegas based Penny J. Fife is an LMFT who specializes in eating disorders and substance abuse. Operating since 1996, Fife has a private practice that provides treatment to adolescents, adults and couples in a non-group setting. Fife utilizes a number of evidence-based approaches and is one of very few eating disorder specialists in the Las Vegas area.
Treatment
Fife provides some documents online that potential eating disorder clients fill out prior to their first session to assess the level of care needed. Fife treats a number of eating disorders including anorexia, bulimia, compulsive over eating, over exercising and binge eating disorders. During a 50 minute session, clients discuss coping skills, body dysmorphia and ways to avoid relapse. In addition, Fife takes into account and treats any co-occurring disorders, or substance abuse.
Fife also specializes in several behavioral health issues, like anxiety, depression or mood disorders, like bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. Common evidence-based protocols are applied during sessions. These include CBT, psychodynamic therapy, interpersonal therapy and family systems. Though Fife’s practice is mainly talk therapy, it is not discouraged for clients to also seek out a 12-step meetings within their communities for additional peer support. Fife often includes family members and loved ones of the client so they can receive counseling and guidance as well.
In addition to substance abuse and eating disorders, Fife also specializes in adolescent behavioral issues, cutting and self harm, delinquency, marriage and relationship issues, anger management and grief or loss.
Extras
Fife provides family and couples therapy within her private practice, and does public speaking and events. In addition, there are resources and referrals provided for those who may need a more structured level of care, such as an inpatient program or an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).
