The Basics

Peaks Recovery is based out of Colorado Springs, Colorado and offers a variety of services including gender-specific inpatient treatment as well as several levels of outpatient care: a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and standard outpatient. Peaks Recovery is specifically dedicated to treating young men and women between the ages of 18 and 30 who are grappling with chemical dependency or have a dual diagnosis. Treatment incorporates the 12 steps along with a number of evidence-based therapy approaches, like CBT, and holistic methods such as equine therapy. Programming fosters accountability and provides clients with a healthy foundation for life in recovery.

Treatment and Staff

The outpatient tracks are common step-down programs for those who are coming out of residential treatment at Peaks, or from a different facility. However, the IOP is open to those who aren’t able to be in an inpatient program for any length of time as long as they are able to avoid relapse successfully during treatment.

The outpatient tracks are pretty flexible as there are morning and evening hours available. These programs are individualized and at the initial assessment, the intake counselor is able to predict how long the client will remain in treatment. Depending on individual need, the clients may attend their programs anywhere from two to five days a week. This equals between nine and 15 hours of group and individual therapy weekly, during which time clients work on relapse prevention and coping skills, in addition to working the 12 steps.

Clients also receive vocational training and assistance with job placement if they aren’t already working full time. There are also options for clients to get back into school, or any other case management services. Co-occurring disorder clients meet regularly with the staff psychiatrist and maintain their medication management if necessary.

Therapy implements a number of evidence-based approaches like CBT, EMDR, DBT and trauma-informed care. The outpatient programs are the same as the residential tracks in that all programming is gender-specific with focused counseling that’s designed to align with mens and womens needs separately.

The Peaks Recovery staff includes a medical director, CADCs, LCSWs, LPCs, LADCs and Master’s-level psychologists.

Extras

Family members are encouraged to participate in the outpatient level of treatment. There are family and couples counseling services offered.

In Summary

The outpatient program picks up where the inpatient level leaves off in that Peaks Recovery provides an environment with caring therapists who know what they are doing. They strive to offer a solid and structured program that is customized to their clients needs with a variety of treatment practices.
