The Basics
ParentCare Family Recovery Services is a substance abuse treatment facility with two locations in San Diego, California. Started in 1989 by the Grossmont District Hospital, PC was a program developed specifically to assist women with children and pregnant women struggling with chemical dependency. The PC program needed funding until it merged with Vista Hill Foundation, a non-profit agency formed in 1959 providing psychiatric care. Now PC works through Vista Hill and all services are still dedicated to providing women and their families with the care they need.
Treatment and Staff
PC Family Recovery Services provides outpatient substance abuse treatment tailored for women and women with children who are at risk for domestic violence, abuse and homelessness. Dual diagnosis support is available to treat individuals with co-occurring disorders and staff members utilize evidence-based practices to help clients work towards recovery. Clients attend therapeutic activities, parenting classes and work directly with community-based resources that support families in need.
All treatments are gender-specific and use trauma-informed care techniques that identify specific issues for women. Clients attend group and individual therapy on the treatment campus with other clients. Topics include psycho-education, relapse prevention, parenting information and how to create a safe environment for their children. While clients participate in therapy sessions, the children can attend an onsite preschool or childcare unit that is staffed by qualified professionals.
Individualized treatment programs are created for each client to meet their unique needs. Length of time spent at the facility is dependent on the client and their family’s progress.
Clients work closely with a qualified staff of LPCs, LADCs and Psychiatrists who offer medication management services. Staff members also work closely with County Child Welfare Services, Drug and Family Courts as well as local hospitals and community resources to help with reintegration. Vocational help is also available so that clients can begin working again. All services are offered on a sliding scale fee to help mothers get the treatment they deserve regardless of their financial limitations.
Extras
A Therapeutic Learning Center is available that offers certified childcare services and a specialized preschool that incorporates learning and Play Therapy for children who have suffered trauma. Staff is a combination of qualified teachers and therapists.
If clients have a difficult time finding adequate housing, they may inquire about the Vista Hill sober living environments that are located within close proximity to the facility. These environments are designed for women and their children to live in a safe and sober environment while they attend treatment.

ParentCare Family Recovery Services provides specialized care for women and their children living in high risk environments. All therapy is outpatient and focuses on gender-specific needs and trauma-informed care. Children can be enrolled in childcare or preschool while their mother is attending treatment. Sober living arrangements can also be made that are designed to meet the specific needs of families and women who face homelessness or who need protection from domestic violence. PC provides an essential safe environment and services for women to begin their recovery while keeping the family unit intact.
