The Basics
Palavra Tree, Inc. is a treatment facility providing services for individuals with mental health and substance abuse disorders. Located in San Diego, California, programs are specialized for adolescents and treatment is exclusively outpatient. Program options are limited to basic tracks using traditional therapy and evidence-based methods.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment at PTI begins with an initial assessment of the client to develop an individualized treatment plan. The length of treatment is typically anywhere from three to nine months but varies depending on the unique plan laid out by the client’s counselor and each individual’s progress.
Treatment involves two group therapy sessions per week and two individual therapy sessions per month. Group sessions cover topics such as self-esteem, relapse prevention, building healthy family relationships, addiction education and independent living skills. Although the 12-steps are not incorporated into treatment, the AA recovery philosophy is integrated into therapy sessions with a particular emphasis on taking responsibility for one’s actions.
The staff at PTI consists of LCSWs and LPCs.
Extras
In addition to outpatient substance abuse treatment, PTI also has several programs for clients and the community at large. Additional services include mental health counseling, prevention programs for teens, youth leadership programs and educational courses for teens and parents.
Intervention services are also available for parents and family members in need of assistance with convincing loved ones to seek treatment. There is also an aftercare program that invites clients to return for individual sessions for up to 90 days after completing the program.

PTI’s outpatient services are individualized and focus on the unique needs of each client. With group and individual sessions, aftercare planning and a foundation in the 12-steps, PTI offers the youth of the San Diego community a solid opportunity for recovery and a fresh start.
