The Basics
Oxford House Buttercup is a sober living home for men only in Lawrenceville, Georgia, a small suburb of Atlanta. It belongs to the Oxford House network of nonprofit, democratically run transitional homes for men and women in recovery from addiction. With a focus on independent gender-specific living and personal responsibility, the thousands of Oxford Houses worldwide offer a second chance to men, women and their families
Accommodations and Amenities
Oxford House Buttercup is a two-story contemporary single family home on a quiet tree-lined street. It accommodates seven clients—three in single-occupancy rooms and four in two double-occupancy rooms. There are three shared bathrooms, a fully-equipped kitchen and a living room with large couches and a cable TV. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the house and a full laundry facility.
Rules and Regulations
The rules at the Oxford Houses are fairly simple. Drugs and alcohol are strictly prohibited on the premises, residents must pay their rent on time and must be respectful of themselves and others in the home.
To be admitted to an Oxford House, clients must have completed either a residential program or at minimum a detox program as Oxford Houses do not typically provide treatment services.
The Buttercup house requires that clients are employed or in school and are attending either two 12-step meetings per week or three self-help meetings. The curfew for the home is 1:30 am.
Extras
In the spirit of unity, a representative from each Oxford House meets with representatives from other homes within a 100-mile radius once a month to exchange information and discuss resolutions for problems that arise in the homes.
There is also a World Convention for clients where representatives meet to discuss the Oxford sober living system and new techniques and treatments for substance abuse recovery.
